Fate of Forkhill Barracks Site to be Decided

During the meeting consultancy firm Deloitte presented the business case for the purchase by DARD of the old Forkhill Barracks site. Speaking from Stormont local councillor Anthony Flynn said,

"The majority of the obstacles to the purchase of the site have now been overcome and there is generally a more positive feeling that the issue will soon be resolved.

"This site could be a fabulous asset to the local community here and I hope that there will soon be an adequate solution. For over 30 years the military barracks cast its imposing shadow over the village of Forkhill. Obviously this impacted very negatively on all those living in the area. I believe the time has come for this land to be handed back to the community.

Councillor Flynn concluded "I would also like to take this opportunity to commend my party colleague DARD Minister Michelle Gildernew for all her assistance to date in this matter. Having spoken to Michelle I know that she feels as passionately about this site as the members of FADDA and I would like to say thank you for her input to date."
