The Assembly Committee for the Environment has responded to Minister Sammy Wilson, MLA, on a raft of measures to improve safety on the North's roads.

Councillor Cathy Rafferty has condemned the thuggish behaviour of a group of Loyalists which attacked a young man and cars in the Mall area on Friday 9th August.
'I have been receiving numerous complaints from angry motorists about how these people were stepping in front of cars, thumping windscreens and shouting sectarian abuse at the occupants. In one case a car full of children were left in floods of tears by the aggressive behaviour, as an Armagh GAA car - window flag was ripped from their car and their father who was driving verbally threatened. Other car drivers passing through this area at the junction of Barrack Hill and Barrack Street have reported similar experiences ' Read full article

Sinn Féin Assembly Member Mickey Brady has spoken of his "deep disappointment" at the vandalism of the hunger strike memorial on the Newry bypass.

Stoning of Cars Must Stop Immediately - Curran
Sinn Féin Council leader Brendan Curran has called on those throwing stones at cars on the Newry bypass to stop immediately
Councillor Curran said,
"For the last few months, perhaps even a year there has been a group of people consistently throwing stones at cars on the Newry bypass. They are taking advantage of the road works in order to cause havoc for their enjoyment. This must stop immediately before someone is killed. Read full article

Sports and Languages programmes introduced by the Department of Education have been an early success and are to be expanded across the North of Ireland.

Newry and Mourne Council are to honour the new President of the AOH in the USA Seamus Boyle who was born in south Armagh. Seamus who is 66 and lives in Philadelphia visits Ireland regularly. Slieve Gullion Councillor Anthony Flynn who knows Seamus and his family said that the election of Seamus as
President of the largest Irish organization in the U.S. was a great honour, not only for Seamus and his family in the USA but for his family and friends in Ireland. "Seamus has been a great ambassador for Newry and Mourne and is proud of his roots" said Anthony. The Council will host a reception for Seamus when he and his family next visit Ireland.
