Another incredible windfall for the MOD taken from local budgets - Rafferty

Sinn Féin Council leader for Armagh City Council, Cathy Rafferty has stated that it is outrageous that the British Ministry of Defence are to receive yet more money from local budgets as part of a rates rebate. Speaking after Armagh City Council has been ordered to pay over £196,000 to the MOD. The Council will also lose out on £139,000 that MOD paid in rates annually. Read full article

Following deep concern expressed by these projects, that Margaret Ritchie's delays were putting hundreds of jobs at risk, many workers and supporters took to the steps of Stormont this week to protest at the Minister's delays. Lifeline, the new regional crisis response counselling helpline, set up as part of the Northern Ireland Suicide Prevention Strategy, is receiving more than 7000 calls a month from people in emotional distress or despair, many of them actively self harming and suicidal.. Sinn Féin's Charlie Casey has spoken of his disgust at the sale of Nazi memorabilia in Newry Markets and has demanded that stall's licence is revoked immediately. The Sinn Féin Councillor said "Once again I have been contacted by a constituent regarding what appears to be a never ending story of vandalism at a block of flats in the city" "A newly renovated flat has had it's windows broken and I'm told that radiators have also been pulled off the wall, this wanton destruction is costing the Housing Executive and the community in both money and annoyance.
