Sinn Féin Councillor Jimmy Mc Creesh has called for traffic calming measures on the Carrowbane Road, Belleek. The long serving community activist noted that it was an overriding priority to have this issue resolved as a matter of urgency before someone is injured or killed. The Fews representative revealed that he was meeting the roads authority in the coming days and that he would seek to address this outstanding issue. Read full article

Newry and Mourne Sinn Féin councillor Terry Hearty has said that his party is seeking a meeting with the owners of ABP meat factory in Newry. Cllr Hearty who intends to meet the owners along with MP Conor Murphy and Mickey Brady MLA has said that Sinn Féin want assurances that the factory will be resituated in Newry after it was announced that the owners have put forward proposal to change the usage of the site from industrial to business and residential. Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady recently met young people with learning disabilities at the mall in Armagh. Mr Brady and the group from Mencap met to discuss the many issues that affect people with learning disabilities in society.
Speaking after the meeting Mr Brady said, "First of all I would like to commend Mencap for the work that they do on behalf of people with learning disabilities. It is important that these young people are given the opportunities to play a full role in every aspect of life. Read full article

Sinn Féin Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy announced a £7.5million investment for the Newry & Mourne area this year.
Speaking ahead of a meeting between Roads Service and Newry & Mourne District Councilon Wednesday, the local MP said: "Construction Works on the A1 Beech Hill to Cloghogue has continued throughout the year which has seen earthworks, service diversions and a number of major structures constructed. Of the 17 major structures one has been completed at the Glen Road and opened to traffic. Many other structures are at a well advanced stage and this scheme is programmed for completion in Autumn 2010. Read full article

A number of Sinn Féin councillors recently travelled to Aras an Uachtaran to meet the president of Ireland. The visit coincided with the 21st anniversary of the twinning of Newry and Mounre District Council and Clare County Council - one of the longest established cross border twinning groups in Ireland. A number of councillors from various political parties as well as a several members of the voluntary sector who contributed to the twinning over the last 21 years also took part in the visit.
