At a recent Council meeting, Sinn Fein Councillor Colman Burns has proposed that officials arrange a meeting with the Environment Minister, Sammy Wilson, to discuss major issues concerning environmental protection in rural areas.
Councillor Burns continued, "Over the last number of years, we as local councillors, have been contacted by the public about several incidents of environmental concern, from river pollution and rubbish dumping to major works being carried out without any assessment of the impact that the works would have on the environment. Sinn Fein Councillor Colman Burns has given a cautious welcome to flood improvements by Roads Service at Creggan Bridge. Cllr. Burns explained, "Over the past number of years, after heavy rain, there has been a tendency for rainwater to back up at Creggan Bridge causing deep flooding on the Newry Road. The road at the bridge has always been difficult to negotiate and full concentration is needed due to the fact that the bridge is narrow and also because there is traffic joining the Newry Road from Donaldsons Road. This periodical flooding added to the dangers and heaped more difficulties on to motorists at this part of the very busy Newry Road. Read full article
