Stoning of Cars Must Stop Immediately - Curran

Published: 13 August, 2008

Sinn Féin Council leader Brendan Curran has called on those throwing stones at cars on the Newry bypass to stop immediately Councillor Curran said, "For the last few months, perhaps even a year there has been a group of people consistently throwing stones at cars on the Newry bypass.

They are taking advantage of the road works in order to cause havoc for their enjoyment. This must stop immediately before someone is killed. "This indiscriminate reckless behaviour has the potential to cause fatalities and the amount of reports of these incidents that I've heard is huge. All it takes is for one car to be hit by a stone and lose control and the community will be dealing with a very serious episode. "In order to put an end to this I am asking the local community to identify and expose the people responsible. It is imperative that these people are identified immediately before someone is killed.
