Morrison's departure presents new opportunity for Invest NI - Brady

Published: 28 August, 2008

Commenting on the announcement that Invest NI Chief Executive Leslie Morrison is stepping down, Sinn Féin Newry and Armagh MLA Mickey Brady said that an opportunity for change of policy, remit and direction is now available to the Executive.

Mickey Brady said:

"The departure of Leslie Morrison from Invest NI presents a new opportunity to the Executive to deliver on its obligation of removing regional disparity in economic investment in the North.

"Leslie Morrison and his predecessors unfortunately inherited the legacy of regional disparity in investment which was institutionalised by the Unionist regime at Stormont, was not addressed under Direct Rule and to date Invest NI has failed to properly tackle the issue.

" There is now a new opportunity for the Executive to make new appointments and simultaneously to change the remit, policies and direction of Invest NI so that investment is directed to areas of greatest need and that investors are actively encouraged to locate in these areas.
