Amazed Robinson has time to play petty politics - Boylan

Published: 29 August, 2008

Commenting after Peter Robinson sent a letter to DRD Minister Conor Murphy complaining about presentational changes made to the Regional Development Strategy, Sinn Féin Newry and Armagh Assembly member Cathal Boylan said 'it was time for the First Minister to stop engaging in petty politics and get down to the business of sorting out real issues'.

Cathal Boylan said:

"Aside from the fact that Peter Robinson has no authority to write any letter on any subject on behalf of OFM/DFM without the agreement of Sinn Féin, people will be amazed that at a time when there are real outstanding issues to resolve Mr Robinson has the time to play petty politics. The Regional Development Strategy produced by DRD is an accurate reflection of what was agreed at Executive level.

"The background to this letter is a query made by rejectionist MEP Jim Allister. The pattern seems to be Jim Allister raises an issue and it becomes a DUP priority. It is weak politics and no way to do business.

"It would suit Mr Robinson better if he used his time engaging in the process of intensive dialogue he committed his party to in June to sort out serious issues instead of wasting time playing petty internal unionist politics."
