MARGARET RITCHIE NOT UP TO THE JOB - Brady
Published: 10 September, 2008
Sinn Féin MLA Newry and Armagh and DSD committee member Mickey Brady has stated that the DSD Minister, Margaret Ritchie, is failing to deliver on key commitments and requirements of her job. This follows the revelation that Ms Ritchie has not submitted her September Estimates for the required scrutiny by the DSD Committee, which will meet on Thursday of this week.
Speaking today Mr. Brady stated:
'The September Estimates for the expenditure of Departments need to be sent to their relative scrutiny committees for the start of September. This enables the first committee meeting of the term to deal with the budgets. So far all ministers will achieve this however Margaret Ritchie has stated that she will be unable to do so.
'Is her workload to much for her and her department under her leadership to deal with? With this revelation, Margaret Ritchie, while not doing her job is stopping the DSD Committee from doing its job.
'Over the past months we have seen that Margaret Ritchie's department has lost over £40m of child maintenance, has so far failed to deliver the promised mortgage rescue scheme for home owners and as the year approaches it's final quarter has not stated whether 1,500 social houses will be built this year as detailed in the current budget.
