Multi Agency meeting very positive - CaseyPublished: 16 September, 2008
Newry Sinn Féin Councillor Charlie Casey has said that although only Roads Service (including Traffic Branch) were in attendance at yesterday's (16th September) multi agency meeting, it was however very positive
Councillor Casey raised a number of issues including 'Pay and Display' parking which was recently introduced in Newry.
Mr. Casey said,
"The main concern among some traders is the disparity between parking times for instance in Hill St.which is 1 hour as opposed to Monaghan St. which is 2 hours. It was pointed out that current arrangements were only an interim agreement to be reviewed as the scheme progressed. This was an already agreed position that all councillors were aware of and agreed with at the numerous consultation meetings that took place in Newry Town Hall before the scheme was introduced.
"It was agreed that a letter drop would take place to survey the current views of the Hill Sttraders. If a majority the traders on Hill Stare of the opinion that the current time limit is too restrictive then this could be changed."
Cllr Casey also raised the possibility of extending the current traffic calming measures in place in Mourne View Park to include Cochron Rd, Plunkett St, past St Josephs School and Barrack Street.
"I asked at a previous meeting that the current Bus Stop in place on the Dromalane Rdnear Quayside Close be upgraded, and that the area around the stop be properly maintained and that the Housing Executive properly maintain the large green area behind the front row in Dromalane."
