Conor Murphy voices support for 'Shell to Sea' hunger striker

Newry and Armagh MP and MLA Conor Murphy has today voiced his support for school Principal and 'Shell to Sea' campaigner, Maura Harrington who has today (Thursday) entered her 10th day on hunger strike.

Mr. Murphy said,

"Maura Harrington embarked on hunger strike when 'Solitaire' (the biggest pipe-laying ship in the world) arrived to begin laying the pipeline for Shell's contentious Corrib gas project.

"Maura's demand is straightforward: 'Solitaire' must leave Irish territorial waters and has stated that her hunger strike won't end until that demand has been met."

"With every passing day, there is an increasing risk to Maura's health and to her life."

"The 'Shell to Sea' campaign is not only an issue for the people of Mayo; it is an issue for all the people of Ireland who; as the 1916 proclamation states, have the right to the ownership of Ireland and all her resources."

"Maura's actions are extremely courageous and her demands are just. Shell must withdraw this ship immediately" ENDS
