Jimmy McCreesh Welcomes DOE ActionPublished: 21 September, 2008
Sinn Fein Councillor for the Fews, Jimmy McCreesh, has welcomed the recent erection of speed signs and street lighting at Lislea. Residents in the area had campaigned for these facilities through a petition and pressure from local Sinn Fein councillors on the DOE.
Mr. McCreesh said,
'I would like to welcome the swift action from DOE in providing these much needed services to the area. I would also like to commend the people of Lislea for taking action to secure this initiative and would urge other areas to follow this example and liaise with their local Sinn Fein Councillors to devise a collaborative approach on such matters that could lead to similar successes.'
Cllr McCreesh, in relation to the recent disturbances in Newtown, attended a meeting aimed at addressing the problem in the area. He said, 'The meeting held last week was very positive and ideas on how to address the problem were discussed. It was agreed that the erection of lighting and a general clean up would provide a short term solution but that surveys would have to be carried out before a long term plan could be agreed.'
Cllr McCreesh concluded by assuring those residents affected that he will not let the matter rest and will that everything possible will be done to ensure they can enjoy comfort in their own homes |
