Cathal Boylan welcomes announcements that Translink have topped their 'on time' targets

Published: 22 September, 2008

Sinn Féin Assembly Member for Newry and Armagh, Cathal Boylan has congratulated Translink after today's announcement that independent research has shown that Translink bus and rail services have topped their on time targets. The research was carried out in the Spring of this year and measured Translink's performance against the Passenger's Charter.

Mr. Boylan said,

"This is another set of good results for Translink and the Department of Regional Development. As Translink passengers are pleased with the 'on time' results and the comfort of Translink vehicles it will encourage more people to leave their cars at home and use public transport. As Translink introduce extra buses and increased frequency on key Metro corridors and the new quality bus corridor on the

Antrim Road

(delivered with DRD Roads Service). This is a great example of how to beat congestion.

"It should also be recognized that the rising number of people using buses and trains show that investment is paying off. Great passenger transport is part of a sustainable future for us all."

Mr. Boylan concluded,

"As the popularity of public transport increases and more people begin to avail of the amenity I now hope to see the fares that the consumer pays start to decrease."
