Cathy Rafferty - Armagh City & District Council
Cathy Rafferty is a Republican ex-prisoner and has been a Sinn Féin elected representative since 2001. She is a mother of two and is married a local publican. Cathy is a prominent member of Armagh City and District Council's Regeneration and Development Committee. She is also an active supporter of the City Centre Regeneration Scheme believing that the regeneration of Armagh City is a hugely important issue that must involve a cohesive, constructive and wide range of partnerships.
Cathy is a member of the Resources Committee and the Theatre Management Board. She has gained a huge amount of respect for her interest and involvement in community based groups and highlighting issues of concern on their behalf. She sits on the Drumarg, Mullacreevie and Callanbridge project teams. These three areas are listed as areas of high deprivation and Cathy has encouraged all groups and residents to work in partnership with agencies such as the NIHE to build the esteem of an area and those living in it. Cathy has been on the committee of the Naíscoil Ard Mhaca for the past nine years and consistantly promotes the school and the Irish Language. She is determined to make sure that the Council implements a language policy and actively considers the appointment of a Council area Irish Language Officer. Cathy is an avid GAA supporter and has always ensured that achievements by county and local teams are recognised. Cathy Rafferty has a hands on approach to representing communities. She is regarded by all as a hard working and committed Councillor.
