Marian Mathers - Newry & Mourne District Council representing Newry Town

Marian has been involved in the Republican Movement since the early 1970's. She was a key worker in the Sinn Fein advice centre for many years dealing, daily, with the needs of people from both sections of the community as well as new nationals. Marian has been a Sinn Féin councillor since 2004.

She has lived in the Derrybeg Estate all her life and grew up with the daily routine of being harassed and having her home searched by the British Armed Forces. In the early 1990's Marian, along with her three children, escaped death when the minibus she was travelling in was ambushed just outside Newry by a British sponsored death squad.

Marian is a tireless worker within Newry Sinn Féin juggling council work with her part time job. No job is beyond Marian's capabilities and she has built up a very good working relationship with all the statutory bodies within the area.
